28. Parkhead Square
There are 28 pub trails in Glasgow, some with two parts. There are eleven trails in the centre of the city, plus five (four of which have two routes) in the West End, six on The Southside across the river and five going East, and of course the famous Subway Crawl.
Three trails explore three of the main streets in the city centre HOPE St; RENFIELD St and WEST NILE St
Two trails are around Squares; GEORGE SQUARE and the OLD FRUIT MARKET in Merchant City.
Another five, trails take in : QUEEN St & GLASSFORD St, JAMAICA St/ST ENOCH, Around THE TRONGATE, BATH STREET , WATERLOO St & BOTTOM of HOPE St and CHARING CROSS .
Across the river Clyde, on the Southside are GOVAN, PAISLEY ROAD WEST , SHAWLANDS , QUEEN’S PARK , MOUNT FLORIDA+ CATHCART and RUTHERGLEN trails.
Going East are trails for up GALLOWGATE , further up Gall owgate at PARKHEAD SQUARE , DUKE STREET, Dennistoun , along to SHETTLESTON and down to TOLLCROSS ROAD
In the West End there are more trails - GREAT WESTERN ROAD = St Georges Cross to Kelvinbridge and beyond; two routes, back and forward , BYRES ROAD = two trails one down Byres Road and the other parallel using Ashton Lane , KELVINHALL TO PARTICK = two routes, back and forward between Kelvinhall and Partick subway stations MARYHILL = two trails split into top and lower FINNESTON
Plus the SUBWAY CRAWL - subway stops and the closest bars.
GLASGOW: Parkhead Square
This is not the easiest trail to get to even though if continues from both Denniston trail 18 and from Up THe Gallowgate trail 17 then is itself joined to Tollcross Road (trail 26). Fast travel by train could be to Dalmarnock which is a 20 minutes walk to The Oak pub (this passes The Real McCoy pub on London Road which opens at 4pm Mon, Tues & Wed) or Carntyne (start of Shettleston trail) which is 18 minutes walk to The Prince Charlie. However, there is plenty of buses to Fiveays or to The Forge shopping Centre,
The order pubs are visited in will depend on where you start from. However, at the main junction is The Fiveways Inn. Then crossing over and down Tollcross a few minutes is The Tavern Bar. Instead of returning to the junction walk back a little and turn right up Sorby St taking you to Westmuir St and The Prince Charlie across the road. Return down to the junction and cross over and down Springfiield Road to The Oak Bar. The Real McCoy (opens at 4pm Mon, Tues & Wed) is a few minutes further down. Return back to the junction and go right towards The Gallowgate to get to The Old Black Bull then return to wards the Fiveways Inn and next door to it is The Anchor.
The Tavern Bar is 18 minutes from the start of the Tollcross Road trail further down Tollcross Road
The Old Black Bull is 26 minutes walk from the end of the Gallowgate trail and 20 minutes walk from the start/end of the Denniston trail at Duke St Station

Timeout listing of best pubs - controversial
A proportion of the pubs in the city centre and west End have real ale but many do not. The west coast still has a bit of a lager flavour - occasionally only lager. Real ale is not limited to trendy style pubs, and not even in many of these.
Glasgow does not have the tourist grouping of pubs as found in Edinburgh - they are mainly aimed at Glasgow folk.

The Tavern Bar is an excellent bar and lounge (although both rooms could be lounges). Immediately in the door there is a lovely highly polished wooden horseshoe shaped bar coming from the middle of the left wall. A door to the left of this, past some seating under the window, takes you into the lounge. There is seating either side of the entrance. The right side of the room has a couple of booths with black banquette seating and tables and chairs and a large TV on the wall. Further through, beyond the servery is a pool table space with further booths. The servery curls round and eventually connects with the lounge servery. Going through to the lounge there is a large square room with the servery round to the right and a giant mirror, reflecting the servery, on the far wall. Seating again is black banquette with tables. Both rooms are well light by spotlights and natural light via the windows. The pub does meals and has lots of events on for entertainment.

The Prince Charlie has a lovely bar-lounge to the right with a large function room to the left. Once into the room a little the servery is along the left wall. This is a wooden counter with brass footrest and some stools with a substantial gantry of dark wood with mirrors, carvings and wall lamps.
The large room is partitioned off into three sections along the right wall. The first has green banquette seating in two large booths each with two tables and chairs. The second is opposite the servery with three square tables and chairs. The last section at the rear has a pool table and some seating. A door on left in this section takes you to a large lounge which is now only used for functions and special occasions.
The walls above the banquette seating are brown wood with mirrors and wall lamps.
The ceiling is high at servery but lowered in seating areas. Tiled floor around servery but wood in seating areas. Stained glass in windows and within the partitions walls.

There is a large variety of pubs throughout the different towns shown below. Some you may wish never to visit again but even discovering these can be interesting. There are pubs that you would not take your wife into. While some you could not take your girlfriend into. A few you would not take either into. However, most of the pubs are very pleasant.
