Glasgow pubs St George’s cross subway to Kelvinbridge
GLASGOW: St George’s cross subway to Kelvinbridge
Take the subway from anywhere and alight at St George’s Cross station. Turn right out of the entrance and walk down to the junction and cross over what is Great Western Road. The road running off of Great Western Rd, is Maryhill Rd. Cross to the right hand side and walk up and around this building and walk down Clarendon Pl to The Castle Vaults across the road. Continue down and around to the right back towards the subway and onto Great Western Rd.
Past the subway and on the left is The Hug and Pint, quickly followed by Munro’s and across the street is Wintersgills. Up a block, past a church and up another block there is a gap to the right which has a line of trees. Turn right here onto Lansdowne Crescent (only connected to Great Western Rd by pavements). Along this road is a basement bar called The Lansdowne.
Shift back to Great Western Rd and the next church up is Webster’s. From here cross over the road and the bridge (which looks over Kelvin Bridge subway). On the far corner, just off the bridge is Inn Deep. From here continue up Great Western Rd and walk up to the second corner where there is the large Cooper’s and opposite it Kitty O’Shea’s and The Bakehouse. Cross back over and return towards the bridge turning right onto Otago St and follow this down, curves and all, until it crosses Gibson St. Turn left here and see The Left Bank opposite and down on left Stravaigin. Continue down Gibson St and across the bridge and turn left. Walk along to the next corner and The Doublet.
Leaving The Doublet walk down past its long side (Lounge Bar) and the road curves round to Kelvin Bridge subway. Or there is an alternative route back via 4 bars.
Alternatively, on leaving The Doublet instead of getting the subway from Kelvinbridge you may walk back to St Georges subway via four more bars.
Across the roundabout from The Doublet is Woodlands Rd. Up here on the right is The Old Schoolhouse then across the road and up past the roundabout is DRAM!. Not far up is FF West End (formerly West) and on the next corner is The Arlington. Cross over the road and continue down until the Lyndoch St corner where there is basement bar called The Drake. Then crossing back over proceed to the lights and turning left into St George’s Rd where at the next corner there is Camerons (formerly The Carnarvon).
A place this size is bound to have its own guides to illustrate the vast quantity, quality and styles of pubs.
Glasgow guide illustrating top ten pubs in different styles of drinking (and dining) eg Style pubs or Live Music pubs.
Timeout listing of best pubs - controversial
A good proportion of the pubs have real ale but many do not. The west coast still has a bit of a lager flavour - occasionally only lager. Real ale is not limited to trendy style pubs, and not even in many of these.
Glasgow does not have the tourist grouping of pubs as found in Edinburgh - they are mainly aimed at Glasgow folk.
Practically every pub offers food at lunch or all day
