Irvine is a small town on the coast of North Ayrshire

Reached by train fron Central station every half hour during the day trains to Ayr will take just over 40 minutes to reach Irvine

Leave Irvine station having decided whether to visit the town or the harbour side. Town is probably better leaving the harbour side for the afternoon. Walk out of the station and through the car parks to enter the shopping centre. Inside here is the Wetherspoon pub, The Auld Brig. Leave the shopping centre at the other end and in the pedestrian zone is The Delta Bar. Moving up to the cross roads turn left and on the right hand side is The Carrick. Following the street up for 5 minutes there is The Turf Hotel. Turn right after it and follow the curve round and cross over two sets of cross roads at Aldis and then Bank St.and just after this corner is The Clubhouse connected to the Snooker Club.

Leaving here continue following the road roun to the right and at main road turn left to reach Porthead Tavern (closed Monday) or turn riught to walk back into town to The Northern Way/ R & A Sports Bar. Continue up to the cross roads and go down the pedestrian zone, past The Delta Bar, and back into the shopping centre. Continue out of this towards the railway station and go through the tunnel below it.

This is you on Montgomery St which leads to Harbour St and 7 minutes from the station there is Harbour Lights, a further six minutes there is Duncan’s Bistro in the modern building and The Ship Inn (closed Monday & Tuesday, opens 2pm Wed) on Harbour St

 The towns and villages highlighted on this web site have a wide variety of pubs and beers in them.  All of the places are great to visit, whether for a day or longer, and most have tourist attractions for all of the family.

There is a large variety of pubs throughout the different towns shown below. Some you may wish never to visit again but even discovering these can be interesting. There are pubs that you would not take your wife into. While some you could not take your girlfriend into. A few you would not take either into. However, most of the pubs are very pleasant.
